A Love Story Built on Food & Culture
Five years ago, I left Vietnam and came to the U.S. to study, eager to explore the world beyond my home. I met my husband, a Japanese chef with over 20 years of experience in the food industry, most unexpectedly. He grew up in Los Angeles, where street food culture is alive and thriving. Later, he went to Japan to pursue his culinary career, mastering the art of yakitori grilling. As a MEAT LOVER, my husband was always drawn to simple, affordable, and convenient meals—the kind you find on bustling city streets.
When we met, I introduced him to Vietnamese cuisine. He was immediately captivated, but one dish stood out - COM TAM (Broken Rice). We had our first taste of it together in a small Vietnamese town. As we sat at a modest table, surrounded by the hum of everyday life, he took his first bite. The smoky grilled pork, the delicate broken rice, and the combination of fresh herbs and fish sauce—he was hooked.
From that moment, his love for Vietnamese street food became as deep as his love for me. We would travel together, exploring street food stalls, savoring the rich, vibrant flavors of my home country, and imagining what it would be like to bring that experience to the streets of San Francisco.
For years, we shared a dream—to open a restaurant that would celebrate the bold flavors of Vietnamese street food, served in a way that felt familiar and authentic. My husband’s expertise in grilling, combined with my deep-rooted love for Vietnamese cuisine, created the perfect blend of passion and tradition.
Now, as we stand on the brink of opening our restaurant, Bee’S Vietnamese Street Food, we are excited to share our love story with the people of San Francisco. Our menu is a tribute to the meals we’ve shared—the ones that brought us closer, dish by dish. Every plate tells a story of our travels, our cultures, and our shared dream to bring the heart of Vietnamese street food to this vibrant city.
